Asia Bizz: Auto manufacturer Nissan India has hiked the prices of its Micra and Sunny models, following in to the footsteps of other auto car companies in the Asian nation. The new prices of the cars will be affective from January 20, 2012.

The prices of the cars have been hiked up to 2.09 percent. All the three variants of the Micra petrol car have been hiked up to Rs 3,000, while the diesel variants will cost an additional Rs 20,000. The petrol version of the Sunny version will be costlier by Rs. 5000, but surprisingly the price of the diesel version will remain the same.

The diesel version of the Sunny was launched earlier this month in the Indian market and the dealership started accepting bookings of the car from the second week of December 2011. Kiminobu Tokuyama, the MD of Nissan Motor India, said that the rising input costs and the depreciating rupee has left them with no option but to revisit the prices of the models so as to maintain the business momentum.

The Sunny petrol variant was launched in the Indian market in September 2011, while the Micra was launched in July 2010. So far more than 25,000 Micras have been sold in the Indian market. Even Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki increased the prices of various models this month.
