Indian auto giant Yamaha, in a press conference on July 23, 2012 announced that they would be launching its scooter Ray in the month of September 2012. The scooter was first launched at the 2012 Auto Expo and is Yamaha’s first scooter for the Indian market.

The scooter is being marketed for the females aged between 16 and 24, particularly those who are college goers. The company says that the two-wheeler market is expected to grow by ten percent this year and the company is targeting 18 percent market share by 2016. Yamaha is also preparing to get ready their Chennai plant which is expected to become operations this year. The Ray will be priced around Rs. 50,000 to Rs.55,000.
