Newly elected President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Vice President M Hamid Ansari on August 19, 2012 greeted the nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The festival will be celebrated by the Muslims in the country on August 20, 2012.

The president said, “On the joyous occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens”. Mukherjee added, “Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the period of fasting during the holy month of Ramzan which is a month of blessings and forgiveness. The festival reminds us of our duties towards the poor and downtrodden as well as the need for charity and generosity towards all”.

The president also hoped that the auspicious day must strengthen the mutual good will and instill the sense of unity and pride in the composite culture of India. While the Prime Minister said that the festival is an occasion that is marked by happiness and the spirit of brotherhood and sacrifice.

Manmohan Singh said, “May Eid this year further strengthen our cultural bonds and bring peace and prosperity to all”. Even Vice president extended his greetings and good wishes to the citizens and added that Eid signifies the traditional expression brotherhood across the country.
