Indian telecom company Aircel has announced a new plan which will allow its users to have free local calling minutes with data usage. Despite this fact, reports state that other telecom operators are not threatened by the company’s latest move.
On the other hand, other telecom companies are looking forward to raise their call and data tariffs so as to improve their margins. The new plan that has been introduced by the company is known as ‘Surf To Talk Free’, which offers free calling with data usage. The new plan has been launched so as to improve Aircel's market share in the ever-competitive service provider space.
Aircel will be offering ten minutes of free local calls on the consumption of 1 MB or more data. This offer could be made available to users on a daily basis as well. Anupam Vasudevan, the chief marketing officer for Aircel said, “It is not discounting, it is actually giving the customer extra”. However, the catch here is that the company is offering free calling to users when they are using data at the base rate and not as a part of any pack. This is where Aicel could make up the margins that have been lost in the form of talk time minutes.
