US-based manufacturing giant Apple has recently announced that it has sold more than 100 million iPod touch devices, since its launch in 2007. This accounts for two in seven of all the iPods that were ever sold. The iPod touch, which reached remarkable sales figure, has a 16 GB storage and does not have a front-facing camera.

The device is available in two colors, black and silver, in contrast to earlier models. The iPod touch managed to reach this amazing figure due to its simplicity and lowest price tag at $229. The device has appealed to customers who could not previously afford the product and who remain out of Apple’s usual consumer scope.

Half of the iPods which Apple sells are iPod touches, but figures from the earlier quarter have reported that Apple has sold more than 5.6 million iPods, which is a 26 percent drop year-on-year.

For now, US-based manufacturer said that it does not have any plans to introduce updates to iPod Nano. Apple is known for dominating the segments of smartphones and tablets with its iPhone and iPad respectively. Its iPod touch devices have become popular with time among Apple enthusiasts.
