Bollywood movie ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ starring Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor has so far gone tax free in many of the Indian states. After Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Goa, the movie has also become tax free in the state of Jharkhand . The movie is directed by Rakeysh OmPrakash Mehra.
The flick has Farhan playing the lead role of Milkha Singh who was also known as ‘The Flying Sikh’ due to his athletic skills. Singh was a national champion runner and also an Olympian. Satnam Singh Gambhir, the Bihar Jharkhand regional unit president said, “The movie is truly inspiring. It traces the journey of one of our greatest athletes and how he triumphs against all odds. Therefore, we want more people, especially youngsters, to watch it.”
Gambhir added that the government must exempt the movie from entertainment tax so that the prices of the ticket come down and more people rush to the theatres. Harbhajan Singh, a former Olympian and Jharkhand Olympic Association JAO member said that more people will now come to the theatres to watch the film of the ticket rates are slashed down due to the tax exemption.
Singh had represented India in basketball in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. The government was pressurised by the college goers and youngsters to make the movie tax free.
