Earlier reports stated that the iPhone 5S will come with a different type of security than the regular four-digit passcode. However, recent reports mentioned in The Wall Street Journal said that Apple will include a fingerprint scanner on a high-end iPhone and the company is expected to announce this on September 10, 2013.
If these reports turn out to be true, then users of the old iPhones will be spared of the four-digit passcodes and the new technology will work with a simple touch on the front of the smartphone. The new idea is expected to be introduced in order to keep away hackers and thieves. In addition to this, more evidence has been mounting about Apple venturing into fingerprint technology.
In 2012, there were reports that the company bought fingerprint sensor and identity management software and subsequently, rumors floated that Apple is aiming to use the technology in its upcoming devices.
In July 2013, a copy of an Apple patent application published by the US Patent and Trademark Office described a technology in which a sensor is used to trace a person’s finger and fingerprint to determine the identity of the owner of the device.
