Preparations for the upcoming 2020 Olympics and Paralympics have begun and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Japanese Olympic Committee have formed the organizing committee for the 2020 Olympics on January 24, 2014. Yoshiro Mori, the former prime minister of Japan is the head of the committee.
Tsunekazu Takeda, the JOC president said, ?We start preparations for the success of the 2020 Games under the leadership of President Mori with ?all-Japan? efforts?. Takeda was talking to reporters at the metropolitan government building on Friday, January 24, 2014. The committee will have to take care of preparations, as well as overall management of the Summer Games which include the competitions, the facilities and transportation and the opening and closing ceremonies.
The president of the committee said that he was happy to announce the launch and also felt a strong sense of responsibility, considering the large role carried by the organization. Mori went on to say that they have to work hard in order to accomplish their vision to contribute the the sports sector in the world.
Toshiro Muto, the former vice president has been appointed as the chief executive officer of the organizing committee. Muto noted that the secretariat begins with 50 staffers and the number will increase to 3,000 with 80,000 volunteers in six years. The organizing committee has estimated a budget of ?301.3 billion for the event.
