It has been a little over a month since the Finnish manufacturer Nokia launched the Nokia X handset for the Indian market and the device is already getting a price reduction. At launch, the latest phone was priced at Rs. 8,599 and it will now be available for Rs. 7,729 after the price cut. This marks a drop of almost Rs. 1,000, which is significant considering that the phone is a budget-friendly device.
The Nokia X was an attempt by the Finnish company to introduce a phone which will have two of the best operating systems in one device: Android and Windows. The hybrid X system offered the company plenty of freedom to experiment, as well as integrate various markets. Nokia also promised phone enthusiasts that they will be able to access third-party apps and stores with the Nokia X platform.
However, the phone did not become as popular as it was expected at the beginning. The Nokia X failed to take off due to lack of specifications and a relatively high price tag, which made the device a back-bencher among tough competition in the smartphone market. The majority of Indian manufacturers offered the pure Android experience with more hardware strength, all at the same price as Nokia’s device.
The price slash announcement by the company comes at a time when it is preparing for the launch of its budget smartphones Nokia XL and Nokia X+.
