The latest reports state that Malaysia Airlines has made a decision to close all its family assistance centers which have been available to relatives of the passengers on the missing Malaysian MH370 flight. The families of Chinese passengers were asked to leave their hotels on Friday, May 2, 2014.
The airline issued a notice in order to inform the families that MAS will stop providing food, as well as accommodation starting from 6 pm on May 2, 2014 at three hotels which are located in Beijing. The families of the missing passengers have been staying at Lido, Chunhuiyuan Hotel and Rosedale Hotel, where the accommodation has been provided to them since March 8, 2014. It has been reported that daily briefings were held in the hotel’s ballroom.
However, following the announcement, the doors of the ballroom were locked. The families have been informed that MAS will make an advanced compensation payment of $50,000 after they return home in order to help them financially. A statement from the MAS official said, “Details will be announced via our official communication platform within two weeks”.
The official went on to say that the families will be able to contact them through their family support center and three 24-hour hotlines. In addition to that, a center at Shunyi district in Beijing will be in charge of communication with MAS’ headquarters, as well as the Chinese and Malaysian governments.
