Union Rural Minister Gopinath Munde dies in a car accident in the capital of New Delhi.

Union Rural development Minister – Gopinath Munde – died in a road accident in Delhi on June 3, 2014. The minister was on his way to the Indira Gandhi airport in New Delhi. New Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock over the sudden death of the political veteran.

Modi released a statement expressing his condolences, “Extremely saddened and shocked by the demise of my friend and colleague Gopinath Mundeji.’’ The newly elected Prime Minister added that the demise of Munde is a major loss for the nation, as well as the government. Modi added that Munde was a true mass leader and hailed from to the backward sections of the society.

Munde was on his way to the Indira Gandhi International Airport and was supposed to fly to Mumbai. The accident took place when his car was travelling from Lodhi Road towards Aurobindo Chowk. The Union Rural Minister had scheduled a victory rally in Beed and Parali on June 3, 2014 as he won the Lok Sabha Elections from Beed Constituency.

The Transport Minister – Nitin Gadkari – informed that the accident took place at 6:30 am, Munde was declared dead by AIIMS (All India Institute For Medical Sciences). Dr. Amit Gupta, the spokesperson from AIIMS said that there wasn’t any cardiac function, or pulse when Munde was brought to the hospital and despite their best efforts the minister could not be revived. Mr. Munde was declared dead at 7:20 am.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi even tweeted out expressing his sorrow over the incident.
