Indian public sector telecom body BSNL launches new low-cost dual sim smartphone.
State owned telecom giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new low-cost version smartphone which will also have e-governance applications for its users. The new device which has been branded as the ‘Bharat Phone’, was unveiled on Friday June 6, 2014.
Priced at Rs. 1,099 the new dual sim phone is extremely affordable for the Indian common man.
The device has a 3 inch screen display which has a provision for a dual SIM. R.K Upadhyay, the chairman of BSNL said, “The low-cost mobile device will alter the Indian feature phone industry as it has been designed especially for e-governance applications and optimised for internet access to empower common man, as the phone is pre-bundled with attractive voice plan, the mobile handset offers common man the power of internet access at an affordable price and will benefit a wide section of society”
The new low-budget phone has been designed and developed by Pantel Technologies Ltd which is considered an expert player in the low-cost tablet and PC market.
The phone has a large screen with Java operating system and can be used for applications like mobile banking, streaming data delivery and tele-healthcare delivery.
Pantel manager Vijender Singh said that the handset enables users to browse their e-mail, check Facebook, music, videos and Java games.
