HTC launches new desire series handsets for Indian markets.
Taiwan based smartphone manufacturer, HTC has launched its new Desire 616 and the HTC One E8 for the Indian market on July 11, 2014. The devices are priced at Rs. 16,900 for the Desire 616 and Rs. 34,990 for the HTC One E8. With the recent launch, HTC is aiming to capture an estimate of 15% market share of the smartphone segment in the country.
HTC South Asia President Jack Yang said, “India ranks among the top two countries in South Asia for us. Growthwise, sales volumes have tripled both month-on-month and year-on-year. The opportunities here are phenomenal. India is one of the countries where products are launched earlier than others”. The president added that the company is focusing on introducing new models with innovative price points.
The HTC country India head Faisal Siddiqui said that various industry reports suggested that they have 4-6% market share and that they intend to grow this figure to 15%. Although, Siddiqui declined to comment on the timeline factor. The country chief added that they have increased their sales points as well as service centers and are noticing some gains.
Siddiqui also stated that the company has a stronghold in the mid-range market which spans between between Rs. 10, 000 too Rs. 30,000.
