The past week for South Indian residents of Chennai have been a nightmare with sudden floods due to incessant rains. A depression over the Bay Of Bengal create a cloud burst with showers for days with little to no respite.

Lower lying regions were flooded first, followed by popular, crowded residential areas. Thousands have been evacuated and displaced all over Chennai with schools and businesses being shut down.

A local resident of the mega city who lives near the airport said that planes parked looked more like ships rather than Airbuses! A lot of charitable organizations, both national and international descended on the Southern city to provide food and basic necessities to those who were separated from their own homes due to the water flooding.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the area and promised aid of up to $150 million to those affected so that things can get back to normal as soon as possible, and the damaged can be re-done.

The rains, however, have finally ceased to cause further havoc on Chennai and as the water recedes, the city is slowly but surely getting back to normal.
