Honeypreet

Daughter of the controversial guru Ram Rahim Singh, Honeypreet Insan has been arrested by the Indian police on October 3, 2017. Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, is one of the accused of inciting violence in which 38 people have been killed in Panchkula in Haryana State, India after the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda sect was convicted of rape in August, 2017.

The police has accused that Honeypreet has been absconding ever since Singh was arrested. Just a few hours before her arrest, Singh’s adopted daughter spoke to a TV channel and expressed that she was ‘devastated’ by the accusations that were made on her that she incited violence. Honeypreet said, “Was I present with the arsonists? How are they levelling such allegations”.

The Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s daughter also denied the allegations that she left the country. Honeypreet insisted that her father is innocent and that his conviction for rape had left her depressed. One of the senior police officials while talking to the reporters said the 36 year old Honeypreet has been arrested and will be produced in court on October 4, 2017. The Dera Sacha Sauda chief was sentenced by the court for 20 years for raping two of his female followers between 1999 and 2002.

Ram Rahim is also facing charges of murder in two of the cases which are due to be heard in the court. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh claims to have 60 million followers across the globe. Singh has performed at rock concerts and even acted in films and also has his own line of food products. The guru has also been accused of forcing his followers to go through castration so as to get closer to God. Singh took over the Dera Sacha Sauda at the age of 23. The sect claims to be a non-profit social welfare and spiritual organization.
