Asia Bizz: The year 2011 has seen a hike in petrol prices for the fourth time. Analysts say that the petrol price increase is the reason more and more Indian customers are moving towards buying diesel cars as compared to petrol cars, due to the increase in the price of the fuel.

As a result, the wait for the diesel cars has increased and petrol cars are now sold on discounts by car dealers. Hyundai Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Volkswagen cars are the leading car dealers who are accepting high bookings for the diesel cars.

Reports state that the companies are trying to attract customers to buy petrol cars at discounts ranging from Rs. 18,000 to Rs. 44,000. According to the current situation, popular companies like Maruti and Hyundai are facing a shortage of diesel cars and no discounts are being offered on the diesel variants.

Nishant Kumar, a sales executive at Rana Motors of Maruti Suzuki, has said that even for models like SX4 which comes with factory fitted CNG kits, no discounts have been offered due to the demand of diesel cars. In the month of January 2011, the cost of petrol was Rs. 58.37 which has now gone up to Rs 73. 55 per litre.
