On February 8, 2013, search engine giant Google is observing the 72nd birth anniversary of Jagjit Singh with a Doodle dedicated to him. The home page of the search engine has Jagjit playing a harmonium, just like he did at live shows.
Singh was born in Sri Ganganagar in the state of Rajasthan, India in the year 1941. His musical talent was discovered at an early age and his father had encouraged him to lean music from popular talents from his era. At the age of 24, Singh decided to head towards Bombay to make a career in music.
Jagjit made a difference by singing ghazals which are not appreciated by all. However, he still managed to build a strong fan base and is loved by all. Jagjit married Chitra Dutta, after which they continued singing ghazals together. The couple also released a joint album called ‘The Unforgettables’, after which they became famous.
Later Chitra gave up on her ghazal singing career due to the death of her son. On September 23, 2011 Singh suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died in Mumbai on October 10, 2011. Some of his popular songs included ‘Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho’, ‘Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar’, ‘ Hontho Se Chulo Tum’ and ‘ Yeh Tera Ghar Ye Mera Ghar’.
