After Italy announced that it will not send its marines back to India for the trial in regards to the killing of Indian fishermen, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed at the Lok Sabha that he was concerned about the matter and was ready to discuss it at a suitable time.

On the other hand, concerned members of parliament were expecting a statement from the PM on the marines and voiced their disappointment. As the Lok Sabha began, the Indian government said that it was willing to discuss issue, but the BJP did not seem satisfied by their statements. The opposition shouted constantly, despite Meira Kumar’s requests for calm.

Kumar requested the MPs to stay silent and that she would allow them to speak at the zero hour. However, the MP’s immediately resumed shouting and did not allow Shahnawaz Hussain to ask questions either. Meanwhile, chief minister of Kerala Oomen Chandy, said that he would raise the issue with the Prime Minister. The Indian fishermen were killed by the Italian marines, who were arrested in India. They were allowed to go back to Italy for Christmas and have not yet returned to the country for their trial. This has strained relations between the two powers.
