In a presentation on June 15, 2013, Tokyo said that it is the best city to host the 2020 Summer Olympics. The reasons behind this statement are a safe environment and its plan to deliver a compact games. At the general meeting of the Association of National Olympic Committee, president of the Japanese Olympic Committee, Tsunekazu Takeda, said that hosting the 2020 Olympics in the city will have a memorable spirit of passion and celebration for both the athletes and fans alike.
Takeda, who is also the head of the Tokyo 2020 Bid Committee, emphasized how important it would be for the city to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the country’s second presentation, which lasted about 15 minutes, it was stated that Japan has an unmatched passion for sports.
The meeting also had Rie Tanaka, a gymnast from 2012 Summer Olympics in London, who said that the thought of the world athletes competing in Tokyo is truly inspiring. The presentation team also emphasized that 85 percent of the venues will be within 8 km of the Olympic village and the accommodations for the officials from participating countries and regions will be placed in districts very close to the city center.
