Finnish mobile giant Nokia has announced that its own app store – which consumers use to download apps on their phones – has reached 2 billion downloads in India, out of which 1 billion are on the S40 and Asha platform. For the time being, the Nokia Store has more than 80 million downloads per month.
The Nokia Store client is available as pre-loaded on all Nokia S40 devices, Asha devices and the new Nokia Asha 501. In terms of ratings, Action games have emerged as the number one downloaded category, while Adventure games are at number 2. Sports games come at number 3, while Entertainment related apps – including video and movies – are at number 4, with Utility based apps at number 5.
The recent growth report will also provide Indian developers with robust business opportunities. Other reports have said that more than 168 Indian developers have already achieved more than one million downloads for their apps and three developers have achieved 100 million downloads, while 9 have achieved 50 million downloads.
Sari Harju, director of mobile phones at Nokia India said that they are blown away with the success of Nokia Store in India. Harju went on to say that, as a company, they are aware that consumers evolve and so do their choices and requirements.
