Tokyo-based video game console manufacturing giant Sony will not be launching its PlayStation 4 in Japan until 2014. This clearly means that the latest device will not be available for the peak holiday season in the country in 2013, which is generally the best time to fetch sales for companies who suffer loses throughout the year.
The Sony Corp. chief of the game business in Japan and Asia, Hiroshi Kawano said at a Tokyo event that the PS4 will go on sale on February 22, 2014 in Japan. The console will be launched in the US and Canada on November 15, 2013 and on November 29, 2013 in Europe. Kawano went on to say that orders for the device will be taken from October 2013.
The bad part regarding the postponed Japanese launch is that the product will be missing the critical holiday season when most consumers shop for gifts for their loved ones on the occasion of festivities. Hiroshi said, “We plan to have powerful titles at the launch date. We are asking for some time before we can offer it but please look forward to it.”
Instead, Sony will be selling the PSVita TV in Japan before any other countries in the world and the new device will be priced at 9,480 yen. It is a small device which attaches to the TV set in order to enjoy music.
