At the moment, Indian telecom operator Aircel is conducting trials of Long-Term Evolution services in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. A top official from the company said that this is just a testing phase and that it will take quite some time for the 4G service to be launched commercially.
Deepinder Tiwana – the AP Circle Business Head of Aircel – while talking to the reporters said, “The trials are currently on but we don’t have the required ecosystem, including the 4G-enabled mobile handsets, to launch the services commercially”. The company is also the second mobile service provider in the country to receive the license for 4G for AP Circle.
Tiwana went on to say that data services are seeing significant growth in the South Indian state. Aircel will be coming up with new data plans in order to provide more value for money to their consumers. The business head added that they have identified the segments of priority and are developing strategies to drive future growth.
Until 2012, the company was making a loss of Rs. 250 crore on a yearly basis and is currently on the turnaround path. Tiwana also assured that the company will start making profit from 2014, but he refused to reveal figures.
