German car manufacturer Volkswagen said that it is recalling more than 2.6 million cars and over a third of them have been recalled in China. The vehicles have been recalled in order to fix a number of problems. The recent recall made by the company is proving to be another blow to a group which is doing its best to overtake General Motors and Toyota as the world’s largest car manufacturers.
Five biggest brands of the company are involved in the recall, including luxury Audis, as well as core Volkswagen passenger cars. The recall is considered to be one of the largest in the company’s history. However, analysts have said that many problems seem to be minor ones and the recall is not even close to 19 million vehicles which Toyota had to recall from late 2009 to early 2011, due to problems with acceleration.
The analysts also said that any question marks over the company’s reliability and inconvenience caused to customers was bad news. Stefan Bratzel, the head of the Center of Automotive Management said, “Carmakers riding on strong growth like VW must be terribly careful that they don’t pay dearly for that growth by conceding losses on quality”.
The company on November 14, 2013 said that it is recalling 800,000 of its Tiguan compact sport-utility vehicle, because of the risk of a partial malfunctioning of lights for models which have been assembled between early 2008 and mid-2011.
