Auto manufacturing giant Honda on November 21, 2013 announced that it will release a new commercial fuel-cell car in 2015. The announcement was made by the Japan-based auto giant after its rival Toyota stated a similar offering during a period when competition in the green car segment is heating up.

The latest announcement was made by Honda at the Tokyo Motor Show, where various automakers are presenting their vision of what the eco-friendly car market should look like. For the time being, the sector is still waiting for a hot-selling model, as the current sales are far below predictions made by the industry. Honda assured that the new eco-friendly car will have its debut in Japan and the US in 2015.

The company also said that the latest vehicle will be launched in the European market at a later date. The new model by Honda will be based on Honda’s FCEV concept car, which was revealed at the Los Angeles Motor Show on November 20, 2013. Honda has claimed that its new fuel-cell car will feature a range of more than 300 miles with hydrogen tank, which will be able to re-charge the vehicle in three minutes.

Takanobu Ito, the president of Honda said, “Hydrogen energy is very efficient and friendly to the environment”. The fuel-cell vehicles are considered to be he holy grail of green cars, as they do not emit anything except water vapor.
