The AN-225 is the biggest cargo plane in the world and will carry two green-energy tram cars from Hebei province in China to Istanbul. The aircraft has become the first high-quality air transport made with domestically built equipment of this size to fly to Europe.
On November 29, 2013, the AN-225 arrived at the airport and was being loaded with two street cars and each weighed about 20 metric tons. About 21 employees from the cargo plane’s owner, as well as Antonov, the Ukrainian aircraft manufacturer managed to install two massive trucks which will guide the 40-meter-long tram cars into the AN-225 and worked from 8 am to 6 pm on November 29, 2013 in order to finish the loading process.
The AN-225 has six engines instead of just two which the regular commercial engines have. These six engines will allow the aircraft to carry heavy loads and it will be able to fly more than 15,000 km in just one flight. The parallel tracks were installed inside the aircraft and different other tethers were attached in order to keep the street cars in place during the flight.
This is the seventh time that the massive cargo has landed at Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport since 2006. The airport is the only one in China to land the AN-225 by the Civil Administration of China.
