Health workers in Pakistan had to delay anti-polio campaign in the country which was supposed to be carried out in five unions councils of Bin Qasim and Landhi areas. The campaign had to be postponed due to security reasons.
Under the latest anti-polio campaign, anti-polio drops were supposed to be administered to more than 44,000 children below the age of five in three councils of Bin Qasim, while more than 30,900 children were supposed to be administered with vaccinations in two union councils of Landhi. However, everything had to be delayed because of security issues.
On the other hand, 685 teams of the polio campaign are taking part in the door-to-door campaign in Quetta, which is the capital city of Balochistan. In addition to that, the vaccination teams will be performing duties at railway stations, airport as well as mosques. The teams will be protected by the police and FC personnel. The anti-polio drive also began in different areas in Punjab. For the campaign, about 39,000 vaccination teams have been formed.
Over 700,000 children in Multan are expected to be administered with anti-polio drops. The Asian country of Pakistan – along with Afghanistan and Nigeria – is one of the three countries in the world where the virus is still endemic. Since December 2012, more than 40 people have been killed – including health workers – and the police is guarding teams which administer anti-polio drops to children.
