While talking to the media, the managing director Massaki Kosaka said on March 30, 2014, “Our aim is to be No 1 in Asia. More expansion will be focused on East-Asia and Southeast Asia”. As of December 2013, the chain operated 23,262 branches all over the world, including 10,000 abroad. When it comes to Southeast Asia, the company has chains in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand.

In 2014, the company is moving at its fastest pace as the region is expected to show economic growth and business potential. The FamilyMart Academy was opened in January 2014 to supply human resources with an investment of 100 million yen, which is expected to rise over time. Moreover, the Japan-based company is also interested in joining hands with its Thai partners in other areas.

However, Kosaka refused to reveal more details, except to say that FamilyMart was supporting the placement of Thai products at the overseas branches. Meanwhile, Taiwan and Thailand are positioned as the production centres for the company all over Southeast Asia. The company hopes that there is still more potential in the fast-moving consumer goods market in Thailand.
