Nvidia has been slapped with a counter lawsuit by Samsung Electronics for its chip patents.
In a turn of events, Samsung Electronics has countersued Nvidia for alleged infringement of its chip-related patents and for false claims about the latter’s products in a lawsuit filed in September 2014. The South Korean company filed the most recent lawsuit in a US Federal court on November 4, 2014.
As per the petition, Samsung is now seeking damages for violations of many of its technical patents, including those that control semiconductor buffering and data usage. The company has accused Nvidia of making misleading claims while advertising its Shield tablet, which states that the device has the world’s fastest mobile processor, the Tegra.
Samsung has stated that as per benchmarking studies performed by researchers at Primate Labs, the claims have been proven to be false. Two months ago, Nvidia had accused its rival Qualcomm and Samsung of infringing patents on its graphics-processing unit (GPU).
The American company stated that the two companies had used its patented technologies without a license, further pointing out Samsung’s mobile devices, including the recently launched Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.
As a response to the countersuit, Nvidia too has brought to attention a benchmarking study that supports its claims about Tegra.
