New Metro trains in Delhi are ready for the Phase III and will also change the way passengers travel. The new trains that have arrived from Korea will run driverless in future. The Metro trains are sleeker, faster and even more energy efficient. The first set of coaches have arrived from Korea and the rest of them are expected to arrive by the end of the year 2015.

The train coaches are manufactured by Hyundai Rotem and will be running on two lines Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar and Janakpuri (west) to Botanical Garden. Anuj Metro Rail Corporation spokesperson Anuj Dayal said that the lines will become operational by the end of 2016.

The six trains from Korea were brought through the sea route and arrived at Gujarat’s Mundhra port and was brought by road to Delhi with the help of specially trailers. Dayal said, “A total of 20 six-coach train sets will be manufactured overseas in South Korea, while the remaining 61 are being manufactured at the Bharat Earth Movers Limited ( BEMLBSE 2.41 %) plant in Bengaluru. More than 366 coaches will be manufactured in India.”

The new trains will be different from the current trains in Delhi. Certain changes have been made in terms of technology. The trains will run at the maximum speed of 95 kmph and an operational speed of 85kmph.
