iPhone smartphones manufacturer Foxconn might soon open a production plant in India. Plans are being made to open a new Foxconn plant in the country, which is one of Apple’s key markets in the globe. Low production costs could help apple to compete with the increasing competition in the smartphone market.
Industries Minister in Maharashtra Subhash Desai said, “Foxconn is sending a delegation of their officers to scout for locations in a month’s time”. Foxconn said that it aims to develop 10-12 facilities in the country including the factories and data centres by 2020.But so far no details have been revealed. The Taiwan based tech manufacturer is one of the largest manufacturer of tech products but refused to comment on the details of the future plans citing commercial sensitivity.
On the other hand Desai informed that Foxconn is yet to make any firm commitment but added that the group is looking forward to manufacture iPhones, iPads and iPods for the domestic as well as international sales. Even representatives of Apple refused to comment over the development. Apple’s iPhone 6 16 GB version is sold for Rs. 44,000 in India while rival Samsung’s Galaxy S6 32 GB is sold for around Rs. 40,000.
The iPhone maker has 10% market share in India and is struggling against the local giants including Micromax.
