European subscribers of Vodafone were unable to send or receive emails or access the internet from their BlackBerry devices on the morning of January 11, 2013,  due to a technical glitch. The recent outage lasted for a part of the morning and the subscribers took to their Twitter accounts to complain about the problem.

A spokesperson from BlackBerry clarified that the problem was with Vodafone. The spokesperson said, “All BlackBerry services are operating normally, but we are aware that a wider Vodafone service issue is impacting some of our BlackBerry customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa.” The representative also said that they were supporting Vodafone’s efforts to resolve the issue soon.

While talking about the reason for the outage, the spokesperson informed the media that it was caused due to a router error and that the services were being restored. Even Vodafone confirmed the outage experienced by customers with their data services in the morning.

The restoration work is in progress and the situation is constantly being monitored. BlackBerry even apologized to its customers for any inconvenience caused and promised to keep them updated. In 2011, a major outage was caused which cut off millions of BlackBerry owners across all networks in Europe. The link between Vodafone and BlackBerry internet services also failed in the month of September, 2012.
