On July 12, 2013, auto giant Ford India has announced a recall of the diesel variant of its recently launched EcoSport Sports Utility Vehicle. The company is recalling the vehicles in order to fix an engine starting problem. Ford launched the EcoSport in June 2013, at a starting price of Rs. 559,000 and it has been a major hit among auto enthusiasts.
The vehicle also helped to increase the company’s Indian sales by 14 percent in June, compared to a year earlier. Ford India in a statement said, “As part of routine checks, we discovered a potential concern with EcoSport diesel variants related to the Glow Plug Module which requires relocating the module”.
The company’s statement went on to say that they have recalled about 972 of the compact SUVs. Ford India also said that it is contacting its customers to ask them to take their vehicles to the nearest Ford dealership. Even though the company did not reveal any details about the nature of the problem, it did confirm that no injuries or accidents have been reported due to the defect so far.
The company stated that the latest move is a proactive and precautionary recall action to ensure the safety, as well as satisfaction of its customers.
