Gujarat to have eco friendly public transport buses.
The government of Gujarat, India is all set to introduce a pilot project to run electric buses for public transport. The electric buses will be operated between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. The recent measures will be taken as a part of efforts for a greener and a cleaner environment.
An official associated with the project said that the state-run Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd (GPCL), is all set to introduce an e-vehicle project on a pilot basis for public transport, under which 15-20 E-buses will be launched in the initial phase.
GPCL officials said that the electric vehicles and Solar based Electric Charging system pilot project has been inspired by the former chief minister and the now prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project is thus an extension of his vision towards environmental friendly initiatives with innovative ideas
The officer added that the project has been launched to reduce carbon emissions and to create an ecological equilibrium by using non-traditional fuel like electricity. During the first phase, the electric vehicles will run from Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad and if it meets success, then it will be implemented in other parts of the state.
The project will also include setting up of solar power based electric charging stations at regular distances. 15-40 seater mini buses will be purchased for the project launch.
