It has been revealed that South Korean giant Samsung Electronics has joined forces with US-based semiconductor giant Intel. Intel will be providing advanced processor chips for the upcoming budget Samsung tablets. This agreement has mentioned that Samsung will be using Intel’s Atom-branded processors in its Galaxy Tab3 tablets.
This recent move will increase the chances for Intel to expand its presence in the ever-increasing mobile device market. The Tab3 is expected to be unveiled at the 2013 Computex conference, during the first week of June 2013, in Taiwan. One of the research staff at Samsung said, “This is a win-win deal for both sides. Intel, which is trying to cut its heavy reliance on PC business, offered better pricing for Samsung that is shifting its focus toward tablets following its huge success in smartphones.”
The official went on to say that the company wants to secure as many processors as possible at better pricing, which is why Samsung has been recently diversifying its procurement channel in processor chips, as a strategy to stabilize the production yields of its in-house Exynos-branded processors. Shin Jong Yun, Co-CEO of Samsung, while talking to the reporters said that the company plans to grow its tablet business two-fold by 2013 by selling 33 million Galaxy Tabs.
